ECOTRIN: Arthritis, anti-thrombotic.
E.E.S.: Macrolide antibiotic.
EFAVIRENZ: One-a-day pill used to suppress the AIDS virus ... sold as the brand name Sustiva ... approved in Canada in March of 1999. Should not be used with St. John' Wort which may decrease it's ability to work.
EFFEXOR: Anti-depressant.
ELAVIL: Also called ... "amitriptyline". For depression. Often successful in preventing migraine headaches and peripheral neuropathy.
ELDEPRYL: MAO (monoamine oxidase) inhibitor for Parkinsonism ... 5mg tablets.
ELIMITE: Cream; scabicide.
ELOCON: Corticosteroid responsive dermatoses.
EMETROL: For nausea.
EMIVIRINE: For AIDS.
E-MYCIN: Erythromycin is an antibiotic used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections, such as respiratory tract infections, middle ear infections, and skin infections.
ENBREL: The generic name is "etanercept" ... it was approved by the Food and Drug Administration during the first week of November, 1998. Studies show that the drug reduces pain, waking stiffness, joint tenderness and swelling. It is often prescribed for rheumatoid arthritis. It is a drug that must be injected twice a week. Initially the price was $11,000 per year.
ENDOSTATIN: Experimental (2000) cancer drug. It starves tumors by destroying the blood vessels that feed them.
ENDURON: Hypertension; a trademark for a drug that lowers blood pressure and increases urine output.
ENGERIX: Vaccine for Hepatitis B.
ENFAMIL: Enteral nutritional supplement.
ENFLURANE: A gas used as a general anesthetic.
ENKAID: This medication is used to treat irregular heartbeats (arrhythmias) and maintain a normal heart rate.
ENOMINE: Decongestant / expectorant tablets.
ENTEX: Nasal congestion associated with sinusitis, bronchitis, and mucus in lower respiratory tract.
ENTEX LA: A decongestant that helps relieve nasal congestion.
ENTROPHEN: For long-term preventative ASA (acetylsalicylic acid) therapy ... enteric coated.
EPHEDRINE: This drug relaxes the smooth muscle in the lungs and dilates airways to improve breathing. It is used in the treatment of asthma, chronic bronchitis or emphysema.
EPILIM: Anti-epilepsy drug.
EPINEPHRINE: Secreted by the adrenal gland. Drug that stimulates the adrenal glands and narrows the blood vessels. Used to treat stuffy noses, extreme allergic reactions. Local anesthetic adjunct to prolong it's effects. Should not be used on toes, fingers, penis or patients with a history of hypertension.
EPIPEN: Properly spelled ... "EpiPen". Emergency treatment of anaphylaxis.
EPIVIR: Treatment of HIV in combination with zidovudine. It is also used for hepatitis B. Generic name is "lamivudine".
EPOGEN: Used to increase the manufacture of red blood cells. Uses include treatment of anemia due to AZT (in HIV infected patients) and chronic kidney failure.
EQUAGESIC: Tablets ... analgesic, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, and anxiolytic ... 325 mg, 200 mg.
ERGOT: Migraine headache medicine. Also, used to control bleeding following childbirth ... causes uterine contractions.

ERYC: Antibiotic.
ERY-TAB: Antibiotic used for upper and lower respiratory infections of the skin, soft tissue, genitourinary, legionaires disease, listeriosis, pertussis ... tablets available in 250 mg, 333 mg, 500 mg.
ERYTHROCIN: See "erythromycin".
ERYTHROMYCIN: Antibiotic similar to penicillin. Typically used for infections (skin, genitourinary).
ESGIC: Sedative ... antipyretic ... analgesic.
ESKALITH: Psychotherapeutic; bipolar disorder.
ESOMEPRAZOLE MAGNESIUM: Also called ... "Nexium". For GERD.
ESTRADERM: Used for menopausal disorders like atrophic vaginitis and moderato to severe menopausal vasomotor symptoms. Also, a prophylaxis for postmenopausal osteoporosis.
ESTRADIOL: Female hypoestrogenism due to hypogonadism, castration or primary ovarian failure.
ESTRATEST: Used for moderate to severe menopausal symptoms that do not respond to estrogen alone.
ESTRIOL: Estrogen.
ESTROGEN: Female hormone. Without it tissues of the urinary tract and genitals decrease in size which can lead to a leaking bladder. Undesirable side effects can include high blood pressure, blood clots, breast lumps, tumors and fibroids.
ESTROSTEP: Oral contraceptive ... strength 5-7-9-7
ETANERCEPT: See "Enbrel".
ETAZOLAMIDE: See "Diamox".
ETHILON: Type of suture.
ETODOLAC: Nonsteroidal analgesic and anti-inflammatory ... see "Lodine".
ETOMIDATE: A gas used as a general anesthetic.
EUCERIN: Moisturizing cream or ointment for the skin.
EUPHALAC: For Alzheimer's.
EVISTA: Also called ... "raloxifene". Classified as a sREM (selective estrogen receptor modulator) which duplicates the effects of estrogen on some (but not all) estrogen sensitive tissues (like breast and uterus). Hormone replacement therapy drug. Studies indicate that it can reduce the risk of osteoporosis and actually increase bone density of the spine and hip over a 24-month period. One drawback is that it does not prevent hot flashes and other symptoms of menopause as well as other hormone therapies. It also does not appear to have the same protective benefits for the heart. (See "raloxifene.) Note that the use of sERM's can result in vein clots and encourage leg cramps and hot flashes.
EVOXAC: Also called ... "cevimeline hydrochloride". For dry mouth.
EXELON: Also called ... "rivastigmine". For Alzheimer's.
EX-LAX: ... used to treat constipation and to clear the intestine
EXTENDRYL SYRUP: Antihistamine, decongestant, anticholinergic, antispasmodic.
EXSEL: This medication is used in the treatment of dandruff conditions or certain infections of the scalp. It relieves itching and flaking of the scalp.
EXTENDRYL: Decongestant, antihistamine, and anticholinergic.
